Behind the Picket Fence.
Life behind the picket fence here at Bayman's Cottage. I design, create, cook, build, you name it. I am here to share my designs, show what's new, and live my life out loud!

Days like today are tough on my creativity. The three day weekend. Typically on the weekend I am limited on my ability to do anything in my studio as my children are home and mother is needed. Now that does seem reasonable, typically we work Monday through Friday and then take the weekends off. But when you are a creative type and you are working on projects, developing new ideas you never really shut down. You wake up at 2 am with a new idea you have to write down, or sketch. You even get up at 2 am because you are so excited to get started. You miss lunch, dinner because you are working on something and the time just slips away. Your mind does not work with the 9-5 mentality and when you have a family and other obligations it becomes a real lesson in discipline and time management. I try to limit my activities in my studio on the weekends and do more "family friendly" creative projects such as trying a new recipe or doing a home diy project that everyone can be involved in. Sometimes I just have to get in the car and redirect. My feet are slipping and sliding trying to walk me over to that door where behind lies my paints, papers, fabric, yarn and shelves full of items just begging to be touched and made into something wonderful. It is a two day struggle. I was lucky this weekend, my husband got the children involved in a barn cleaning for the new studio and I was able to steal a few hours working and listening to classic film noir on the computer. I also am able to cheat if we sit down and watch a movie, no crime in knitting while said movie is on is there?
But then I get to day 3. I will admit by day 3 I am grumpy and in serious need to make something. To get lost in my own mind, my quiet world of creativity and labor away. Time to get in the car, hike and get some inspiration from nature and clear my head. Feet, I promise you we shall walk towards that door first thing tomorrow morning and create. For now, I am going to take you on a hike so you stop your complaining.
